The Northern Tier Solid Waste Authority in West Burlington, PA purchased a hybrid 2006 Honda Civic. The authority's other vehicle is a Ford Taurus, estimated to get only have the mpg of their new vehicle.
In an effort to cut costs, the authority received a grant from the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to pay the difference between the hybrid car and an equivalent, regular car.
