Consumer Reports shut out American cars in it's top 10 cars of 2006. Toyota Prius and Toyota Highlander Hybrid represent the only two hybrids in their top 10.
It's no surprise that Consumer Reports has snubbed the American cars however. They've been rating Ford and GM lower than JD Powers does in quality and reliability. Consumer Reports has rated the Ford Escape Hybrid and the Mercury Mariner hybrid as better than average and much better than average in reliability, respectively.
What this top ten list comes down to is reputation, however. Right now, the American public is down on American cars. Ford, in particular, has been spending quite a bit on turning that reputation around, but it still has a ways to go.
