Toyota looking to create more environmentally friendly vehicles

As part of their effort to create a more environmentally friendly fleet of vehicles, Toyota is looking to increase the number of hybrid vehicles they have available.

Toyota is promising to doube the number of hybrid models available in the next decade and work on plug-in hybrid vehicles, as well.

They have also revamped their conventional gas engines and transmissions by introducing the continuously variable transmission for Toyotas compact and midsize passenger vehicles. The new engine has at least 5% greater fuel efficiency and achieves clean exhaust emissions (approximately 75% lower than the maximum allowed by 2005 emissions standards).

They are also considering introducing flex-fuel vehicles in the US and in Brazil (2007).
