According to an AP report, the plant in Fort Wayne has completed renovations 13 weeks early. GM spent over $200 million on the renovations and the plant will begin producing the regular and extended cab versions of the Silverado and Sierra, and a full size hybrid pickup. The redesigned trucks will be built in Fort Wayne, Flint, Mich., and Silao, Mexico beginning next year.
The Silverado and Sierra trucks are two of GM's best selling vehicles.
GM developed the dual mode hybrid system in conjunction with BMW and DaimlerChrysler at a cost of $1 billion and expects to use the new system in the the 2007 Yukon and Tahoe.
