Audi is getting into the hybrid market, even though they admit they are not 'ecstatic' about it. Despite their reservations, in 2008 a hybrid and diesel version of the Q7 SUV will be available.
"It is no secret by now that we are not that ecstatic about hybrids, it is just one of those things we have to do," says Johan de Nysschen, executive vice president in charge of Audi.
Audi is more excited about the diesel version, which will come with a 3.0-liter V-6 TDI powerplant. A more powerful version was presented in Detroit last week, but will not be available in the US due to stricter US emissions requirements. The premium on this new diesel engine will be about $3,000 to $4,000 more than the conventional gas engine.
