Honda Wants to Sell Hybrid Cars in India

Honda is looking to open up India to hybrid car sales. At the moment, there are no regulations covering hybrids.

Honda is hoping India will put in some incentives for hybrids, since a Civic Hybrid may end up costing over $40 thousand. Given all the current push from car makers to sell cars in India for just a few thousand, getting people to pay that much of a premium may be a big stretch.

"We have just begun discussions with the ministry of heavy industries," a spokeswoman at Honda's office near New Delhi said. "Once the laws are in place, we can consider when and how we can begin sales."
