Germany Chairman Bernhard Mattes, citing differences in driving styles, said Ford will not sell hybrids in Europe in the foreseeable future.
Mattes does not believe Europeans will buy into the extra cost to buy a hybrid. The Escape, the only vehicle currently from Ford that has a hybrid version, starts at 12,200 euros, while the hybrid would be 13,940 euros.
"Customers demand cost-neutral solutions" to reduce emissions, Mattes told the Automobilwoche Congress.
Of course, you only have to look at what Toyota is doing with their hybrids in Europe to know that you can sell hybrids in the European market.
