Hybrid sales penetration (March 1-May 26) are up according to the latest PIN report from JD Powers. Diesel sales have fallen to 1.8% of the market from last year (3.1%), mostly due to the slow down in large truck sales. In the meantime, hybrid sales have increased from 3.1% to 3.5%. Gas-powered vehicle sales continue to dominate, however, making up almost 90% of all vehicle sales as flexible fuel vehicle share has also fallen.
Sales of hybrid cars have increased from last year, but part of the difference may be due to the falling sales in the other areas.
Hybrid penetration has slowly been increasing over the past few years. While other models have helped increase the penetration rate, the Prius has been the biggest difference maker by becoming one of the top 10 vehicles sold.
