Saturn is dropping the 'Green Line' name from their hybrid car line-up (Source: Saturn to ditch 'Green Line' nameplate for 2009). It seems customers are looking for hybrids and aren't finding them under the Saturn name.
“It was simply a practical matter. As we expand our hybrid lineup, the names were getting a bit long. It's hard to write a short sentence about the Saturn Vue Green Line 2-Mode Hybrid," Saturn spokesman Mike Morrissey told KickingTires.com.So instead of Saturn Vue Green Line and Aura Green Line, the 2009 model year vehicles will become Vue Hybrid and Aura Hybrid.
Hopefully, customers will be able to buy more than 100 per month, too. GM, like the other car makers, has been suffering from a lack of battery packs for their hybrid line-up. Unlike the others, GM had a problem with the nickel metal hydride battery packs used in their mild hybrid line-up. Leaks were causing a loss of power, which forced GM to recall the battery packs and replace them with ones that were in line for the new hybrid cars. That put a severe crimp on the number of new hybrid cars they could sell.
The battery issue only affected the Saturn line-up of mild hybrids.
