Kia will be showing off two hybrid prototypes at the Paris motor show, the Kia Soul and the Cee'd. Both cars will have 1.6 liter engines mated to 15-kW(or 20, depending on the source) electric motors.
The result will be 48 mpg for the Soul hybrid and possibly 49 mpg for the Cee'd.
Jalopnik is figuring the Kia hybrids will be mild versions, with the electric motor assisting the gas engine in acceleration and allowing for start-stop technology. Add in regenerative braking and you've got a mild hybrid.
