GM Wants a $2.6 Billion Loan to Develop Volt and Spin-Offs

On top of the $8 billion they are already asking the US government for, GM is adding in a $2.6 billion loan request to develop the Volt and two spin-offs (Reuters).

GM is applying for the loan through the DOE loan program to develop fuel efficient vehicles. GM has already shown off a concept Cadillac Converj, which uses the Volt E-REV technology (Extended Range Electric Vehicle).

The auto team put together to review GM's plan for viability already stated the Volt was too expensive, which may put a damper on the loan application.
