Toyota Expects Third Generation Prius to be Competitve

Bob Carter, Vice President and General Manager of Toyota, talks about the third generation Prius. He feels the third generation Prius, priced between $21,000-$27,000 has the best value.

Apparently, Toyota expects the Prius II to be the most popular version, with the right amount of equipment for their customers. Objects such as the Smart Key (driver’s door) and Push Button start; EV, Eco, and Power modes; and the Multi-Informational Display with energy monitor and fuel consumption history are things hybrid owners are expecting from the new Prius. Add in the safety equipment and CD players and at $22,000 it's a "much better value for consumers."

When asked "Did the introductory pricing of the Honda's Insight influence the pricing of Prius?" Carter responded "We're very confident in this car and it's competitiveness vs. Honda." That's not surprising since the latest number of Prius pre-orders seen was between 75,000 and 80,000.

Carter also emphasize the 'full-size' nature of the Prius, capable of seating five adults. He also mentions the higher mpg rating (50 mpg combined) the full hybrid system of the third generation Prius.
