Do hybrid car owners run out of gas more often than others?

I've been looking through some extremely funny forum articles lately from prius owners. It seems that, for one reason or another, they have run out of gas more often (read for the first time in their lives).

It seems the gas gauge starts flashing too early, and people feel like they can get farther than they do. Or maybe some feel like they don't need the gas part of the engine.

The other issue is the expandable bladder. It creates a back pressure that causes auto shut off nozzles to shut off. So fill ups in a new prius can be slow. As the bladder ages, it should become less of an issue. One technique that seems to work is to 'burp' the bladder. Fill up as much as you can, then remove the nozzle. Gently rock your car and then continue to fill. You may be able to get a couple more gallons in, although you should be very careful if you do this.
