Suffolk County has begun replacing county vehicles with more fuel-efficient hybrid vehicles.
County Executive Steve Levy said that 25 hybrid cars that get up to 50 miles per gallon would be purchased to replace vehicles that currently get under 30 miles per gallon.
Suffolk is also buying four hybrid buses next year, and it will purchase 59 clean diesel buses that spew 85 percent less emissions that current bus models.
