Honda will be investing $69 million to build a new plant in Japan to boost its capacity to produce key components for its hybrid cars. WHen finished, the company will quadruple its output capacity to 200,000 units a year.
Honda sold just under 50,000 hybrids last year, and has already sold 20,000 hybrids this year. Sales of the Hybrid Accord have gone way down, as consumers have realised the Accord hybrid was built for performance, not mileage. Honda is getting rid of its Insight and replacing it in the near future with a dedicated family hybrid car.
