Over the next three years, the city of Chicago will buy 300 hybrid vehicles from a local Toyota dealership. For a price tag of $8.7 million, that comes to roughly $29,000 per vehicle.
They will purchase 100 Prius, 100 Camry Hybrids, and 100 Highlander Hybrids. The new vehicles will be used primarily by the police and the fire depts.
The city is looking to boost the number of alternative vehicles by 10% each year. They currently have 5,400 vehicles.
