A new study in Honolulu says the hybrid buses are not saving money. If a diesel bus costs $380,000 and a hybrid bus costs $1 million, then I say that's a pretty obvious conclusion. (Source: Study: Hybrid Buses Aren't Saving Money - Honolulu News Story - KITV Honolulu)
But some of the money being used to buy the hybrid buses are coming from outside, making the hybrid buses more cost effective.
The buses were having issues with the batteries. They were not calibrated correctly and the buses were breaking down. The problem has been resolved, but I'm sure the breakdowns did not make them popular.
